About the Organization:

African Community Housing & Development (ACHD) is a community-founded organization led by visionary Black women and a community Board of Directors. ACHD works towards an informed African Diaspora immigrant and refugee community that is engaged in the holistic development of families, communities, and environment. ACHD focuses on equitable and culturally-relevant health, legal, and educational services; housing stability and economic development; and land-use, real estate, and property development. ACHD staff speak a collective 12 languages, and 85% identify as BIPOC.

ACHD understands the historical values and importance of organizing, strengthening, and honoring collective wisdom. ACHD collaborates with many organizations working on similar goals throughout South King County, including community-based organizations, small business owners, parent groups, and coalitions. 

Position Duties:

  • Manage and oversee Social Services and EPRAP Departments, including all housing, basic needs, and eviction prevention programs
  • Steward relationships with key governmental stakeholders at the local, county, and state level, as well as with partner nonprofit organizations
  • Manage overall department budgets, including staffing and program expenses
  • Ensure high-quality, culturally-responsive social services

Required Qualifications:

  • Five or more years designing and/or directing large-scale social service and housing programs in a public, nonprofit, and/or private setting
  • Demonstrated experience managing a large and diverse staff
  • Ability to engage with and serve the African Diaspora community, including non-English speakers, in a culturally-responsive manner
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Strong writing skills; experience managing both narrative and data reporting for funders
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and demands, establish priorities, manage deadlines, and work effectively in a energetic environment
  • Compassionate and effective leadership and management skills
  • Competency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Background check will be required
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, nonprofit management, or related field OR more than ten years equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in social work, nonprofit management, business, public affairs, or related field
  • Experience with Apricot or another case management database
  • Fluency in a language other than English, especially an African language
  • Background in case management, social work, and/or direct social services
  • Knowledge of housing-first service models
  • Knowledge of King County/Seattle housing landscape
  • Experience working directly with landlords and property management companies

Supervisory Responsibilities:  

This position supervises the Eviction Prevention & Rental Assistance Program (EPRAP) Manager, the Social Services Manager, the Database & IT Administrator, and the Community Outreach Liaison.
