About the Organization:

African Community Housing & Development (ACHD) is a community-founded organization led by visionary Black women and a community Board of Directors. ACHD works towards an informed African Diaspora immigrant and refugee community that is engaged in the holistic development of families, communities, and environment. ACHD focuses on equitable and culturally-relevant health, legal, and educational services; housing stability and economic development; and land-use, real estate, and property development. ACHD staff speak a collective 12 languages, and 85% identify as BIPOC.


ACHD understands the historical values and importance of organizing, strengthening, and honoring collective wisdom. ACHD collaborates with many organizations working on similar goals throughout South King County, including community-based organizations, small business owners, parent groups, and coalitions. 


About the Position:

The Community Relations Associate will be a vital member of the fundraising and community development teams. This position will be responsible for external communications, including a monthly newsletter and social media, and will steward "community donors" and volunteers. This position will help grow local and national awareness of ACHD’s work, and grow a strong base of community donors throughout King County and beyond.


Position Duties:

  • Establish and publish a monthly email newsletter
  • Maintain and grow ACHD’s email list
  • Manage all ACHD social media platforms
  • Ensure that all community donors are thanked appropriately
  • Manage donor data entry into Bloomerang donor database
  • Design and execute direct mail campaigns
  • Assist program managers with volunteer management and stewardship
  • Assist with donor and community engagement events as needed


Qualifications:

  • Required: 
    • Two or more years of experience in nonprofit communications or development (especially annual fund/membership giving) or related experience
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and demands, establish priorities, manage deadlines, and work effectively in a energetic environment
    • Experience with CRM databases and an enthusiasm for clean, effective data
    • Strong writing skills, with special attention to copyediting and grammar
    • Excellent customer service skills, both written and over the phone
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Outlook, Excel, and Word
    • Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality surrounding donor data
  • Preferred:
    • Fluency in Somali, Amharic, Tigrinya, Swahili, or another African language
    • Experience in graphic design and/or social media management
    • Experience with mass email campaigns (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Benchmark, etc)
