About the Organization:

African Community Housing & Development (ACHD) is a culturally-specific, community-founded organization led by visionary Black women and a community Board of Directors. ACHD works towards an informed African Diaspora immigrant and refugee community that is engaged in the holistic development of families, communities, and environment. ACHD focuses on equitable and culturally-relevant health, legal, and educational services; housing stability and economic development; and land-use, real estate, and property development. ACHD staff speak a collective 12 languages, and the majority identify as BIPOC.


About the Position: 

The Housing Manager will oversee all aspects of the Housing Department, including eviction prevention, homelessness diversion, basic needs, and holistic case management programs. This position will manage data and narrative reporting for funders, steward relationships with key stakeholders, manage program staffing and budgets, and ensure high-quality, culturally-responsive case management for the African Diaspora community. 

 

Position Duties: 

  • Manage and oversee Housing Department, including eviction prevention, homelessness diversion, basic needs, and holistic case management programs 
  • Steward relationships with key governmental stakeholders at the local, county, and state level, as well as with partner nonprofit organizations 
  • Manage overall department budgets, including staffing and program expenses 
  • Provide high-quality supervision to all Housing Department staff 
  • Ensure holistic culturally-responsive services for all participants 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Three or more years designing and/or directing social service and housing programs in the nonprofit sector. 
  • Expertise with a variety of housing-first service models, such as Rapid Re-Housing, Diversion, Streets to Home, etc 
  • Knowledge of King County/Seattle housing and social services landscape 
  • Demonstrated experience managing a diverse staff with compassion and cultural competency 
  • Ability to engage with and serve the African Diaspora community, including non-English speakers, in a culturally-responsive manner 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills 
  • Punctual with excellent time management skills 
  • Experience with Apricot, HMIS, and/or another case management database (training will be provided as needed)
  • Strong writing skills; experience managing both narrative and data reporting for funders 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and demands, establish priorities, manage deadlines, and work effectively in an energetic environment 
  • Compassionate and effective leadership and management skills 
  • Competency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook 
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, nonprofit management, or related field OR more than seven years equivalent experience 
  • Background check & proof of COVID vaccination will be required 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Masters degree in social work, nonprofit management, business, public affairs, or related field 
  • Fluency in a language other than English, especially an African language 
  • Background in case management, social work, and/or direct social services 
  • Experience working directly with landlords and property management companies 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:   

This position oversees all Housing Department staff, including Case Managers, the Community Outreach Coordinator, and the Database Coordinator.
